Overview

What Is It

Bosch part number 0280.130.026, a two-wire NTC thermistor in a compact threaded housing built for engine bays.

Oil, water, and fuel temperatures are some of the first channels any engine program logs, and some of the most important ones for an ECU to see. The NTC M12 is the sensor Bosch builds for that job: a Bosch production part in a compact body that threads into an M12 x 1.5 port, with a two-pin Jetronic connector on top.

NTC stands for negative temperature coefficient. As fluid temperature rises, the sensing element's resistance falls, from about 45,000 Ω at -40°F down to about 89 Ω at 266°F. Wired to an ECU or logger input with a pull-up resistor, that changing resistance becomes a voltage your system converts back to temperature, either as a control input for the engine or as a logged channel for analysis.

Before You Install

Installation Notes

  • A sealing washer is not included. Use a sealing washer suited to your port and fluid.
  • Torque to 18 lb-ft (25 Nm) with a 19 mm wrench.
  • Any mounting orientation is fine, but place the tip in moving fluid for the most representative reading.
  • Wire to an analog input with a 1 or 3 kΩ pull-up resistor. Most ECUs and loggers have this built into their temperature inputs.
  • The mating connector is the Bosch Jetronic 2-pole, D261.205.288-01. Contact us if you need one supplied with your sensor.

Common Questions

What connector mates with the NTC M12?

The sensor uses a 2-pole Bosch Jetronic connector. Bosch lists the mating connector as D261.205.288-01.

Can I use it for oil, coolant, and fuel?

Yes. Bosch designed it for fluid temperatures such as oil, water, and fuel, and rates it for E85 and M22 bio fuels.

Will my ECU or logger read it directly?

Most will. It connects directly to temperature inputs that use a pull-up resistor, typically 1 or 3 kΩ. Bosch offers a free sensor configuration file for Bosch data logging, included in the Downloads above.

Is a sealing washer included?

No. Bosch supplies the sensor without a seal, so use a sealing washer that suits your port and fluid.

What is the thread size?

M12 x 1.5 male, with a 19 mm hex. Install at 18 lb-ft (25 Nm).
